First Annual Cornerstone Awards Recognize Builder Superintendents

At the sold-out November General Membership Meeting, the Home Builders Association of Charlotte presented the first annual Cornerstone Awards. Elliott Mann, of Standard Pacific Homes and the 2007 Home Builders Association president, stated, "The Cornerstone Awards pay special tribute to and recognize those on-site professionals who contribute to the continued success of the housing industry in Charlotte.

So often these individuals go unrecognized and this is our chance to bring them into the limelight." Over two hundred and fifty people attended this meeting. Awards included the Superintendent Achievement Cornerstone Awards that recognized job-site superintendents for current and continuing contributions to the industry. Forty-three awards were presented to individuals from the following top building companies in the area:

Crescent Resources, LLC, DR Horton Homes, Eastwood Homes, E.S. Johnson Builders, LLC, Evergreen Homebuilders, LLC, KB Home, M/I Homes, Provident Homes, Ryland Homes, Simonini Builders and Standard Pacific Homes. The Superintendent of the Year Awards honored one superintendent in each of three categories: custom builder, medium, and large volume builders. The winners were selected from fourteen entries. Judges included Chris Newton, Ryland Homes; Darrell Fries, Standard Pacific Homes; Steve Liebentritt, KB Home; and Wayne Carter, Evergreen Homebuilders. Judges did not judge employees of their companies. Winners are as follows: Don Davis, Simonini Builders, Superintendent of the Year - Custom Builder; Greg Ferrell, Evergreen Homebuilders, LLC, Superintendent of the Year - Medium Volume (50-249 units); Bob Mayer, KB Home, Superintendent of the Year - Large Volume (250+ units).

The building industry employs over 40,000 men and women in home building and related trades. The Home Builders Association of Charlotte is celebrating 63 years of success.
